Shahla

Shahla began belly dancing in 2003.  She came to belly dance looking for an additional way to exercise to add to her physical fitness regimen.  Since her first class, it has been love at first shimmy!  One look at her photos will explain why she chose her Persian name, Shahla, meaning dark-eyed woman.

She has studied under a number of instructors in Maine including Josie Conte, Jeanne Handy and Jessica Jane Means.    She is currently performing with Naya's Trance.  Shahla has performed at the Center for Cultural Exchange, St. Lawrence Arts and Community Center, Old Port Festival, Portland Dances, and several charity events including Velvet.

Dancing is no stranger to her, having been a competitive ice dancer in the past.  She was an active member of the Skating Club of Brunswick.

Shahla sews many of her own costumes and has become quite an accomplished belly dance seamstress, making numerous costume pieces for both members of Naya's Trance, as well as the local belly dance community.

Shahla's sewing talents are now available for hire and she is happy to custom design a costume just for you!

From key pieces such as harem pants, vests and skirts to more intricate items such as a cabaret bra and belt set, Shahla can assist you by designing a perfect costume piece for that special performance or by making some beautiful basics that every belly dancer's wardrobe is built upon.

Shahla also teaches beginning level belly dance classes in Gray. For more information visit the Naya's Trance "CLASSES" page.
