Kalyani began dancing about in 2001 looking for a fun alternative to the gym. What she discovered was a beautiful art form that changed her life. With no former dance experience and two left feet, bellydance has taught her grace and brought her a great deal of joy.
Bellydance has also provided a wonderful opportunity for Kalyani to express herself artistically. She displays her light-hearted spirit through her dancing and often chooses music that is fun or slightly comical. She is a true girly-girl at heart and is drawn to the the feminine cabaret style of belly dance. Kalyani has gained a reputation for her fun and engaging style that is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
She has studied diligently under the guidance of some of Maine’s best instructors, including Josie Conte, Jamileh, Marianna and Jessica Means. She has also had the opportunity to take workshops with several well-known dancers including Michelle Joyce, Mira Betz, Nourhan Sharif and others. She has performed locally at many venues including the St. Lawrence Community Arts Center, the Ogunquit Center for Performing Arts, The Old Port Festival and many more, as several private venues.
