Ahnalya (meaning fire and thunder) works in the corporate world by day, and is a belly dancer by night. Having been closed out of an Adult Ed. Italian class, she chose on a lark to take belly dance instead. Intimidated at first, she was soon addicted. She has been a belly dancer for 9 years now. Through the expert teachings of Josie Conte, Jamileh, Jessani and Marianna her passion for the dance has flourished. Workshops taken with Nourhan, Aepril Schaille, Amaya, Karim, and Ramzi have all significantly influlenced her intrepretation of the dance. Ahnalya has developed a great love for Modern Caberet style belly dance and was proud to present a “History of Egyptian/American Modern Caberet Belly Dance” at USM. As a member of Naya's Trance, Ahnalya has performed at: Southern Maine Pride, Mirage, Ogunquit Performing Arts, St. Lawrence Center for the Performing Arts, The Center for Cultural Exchange, The Old Port Festival, Velvet Fashion Show/Benefit and more. |
