Experienced students will explore more complex movement variations, layering, and technique. This class is a great way to reduce street and improve muscle tone, increase stamina, and boost your confidence, all in a friendly, relaxed environment Raqs Outside the Box: Improvisational Techniques: This 8-week class is open to all belly dance students; beginner to advanced. Think of it as a series of mini-workshops. In this class you will be introduced to a variety of improvisational techniques from multiple disciplines including storytelling, movement improvisation, ecstatic dance, and theater. This is NOT your typical Raqs Sharqi improvisation class. We’ll explore the use of sound, breath, and body to explore every realm of our dance. Our objective is to become creatively liberated dancers. Zils, Drills and Combinations: Intermediate/Advanced technique classes. Just what the title says! We’ll take intermediate/advanced technique & drill it until we drop. Next we’ll add on a layer of zills, playing both standard belly dance rhythms as well as complimentary & contrasting patterns. Last, but not least, we’ll explore a variety of combinations from raqs sharqi to folkloric to fusion, all of which can be woven into choreography or improvisation. This class includes the option to perform in the winter Student Showcase on December 5, 2010. This class is suitable for students with a minimum of 1+ years of belly dance study.
